In Tuesday’s blog, I raised the interesting case of Ann Pepper and her ludicrous number of middle names and I was, as I said, intrigued about her life. The joys of record digitisation in the region of her birth – the West Derby RD – mean that my curiosity can be quickly (somewhat) satisfied.

It would appear that Ann was the daughter of Arthur and Sarah Jane Pepper. The baptism is available from Ancestry in the Liverpool, England, Baptisms, 1813-1906: AnnStarkiePepperbp

Oddly, Ann Starkie Pepper! Of all her million and one middle names, why the S? And where did Starkie/Starkey come from? The marriage of her parents shows Sarah Jane’s maiden name as Creighton. That wasn’t included in Ann’s name, though Jane was….

Arthur, Sarah Jane and Ann moved from Lancashire to London in the mid-1880s and in 1891, they are found at 16 Grove Mews, Hammersmith:

Sarah Jane died in September quarter 1899 (Fulham RD) aged 46 and Arthur died aged 55 in Kensington RD in March quarter 1908. But what happened to Ann?

At present, she has not been located post-1891 census when she was aged 8….
