It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

28 February 2014

Every day is a busy day at the offices of Family Wise Limited since my return from Australia…. and we have had some delighted customers this week. Putting long-lost relatives back in contact with one another, several family history projects completed with some really interesting stories from the past and many more lectures written, as well as delivering a webinar for Legacy Family Tree on Wednesday.

Networking certainly works for us and much of our business is coming via word-of-mouth referrals. People we’ve met and have a relationship with. People who can refer us with confidence to their friends, family, clients and more.

Who do you know who is intrigued about their family’s past? Who has told you they were descended from William the Conqueror? Hmmm…. really! Who has recently mentioned to you that they are struggling to find a ‘different present’ for a special occasion? Do you know someone who desperately wants to get in touch with a member of their family – or a client who owes them money – who they’ve lost contact with?

As a company, we are a member of the J17 Chippenham BNI Chapter. I am sure we are probably the only family history/heir hunting company who are members of BNI in the UK, probably across the globe….

BNI is a business and professional networking organisation whose primary purpose is to exchange qualified business referrals. It is the most successful organisation of its type in the world today, with over 150,000 members and 6,000 chapters in operation in the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, across the EU, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, North America, India, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. Last year, members of BNI passed more than 7.1 million referrals which generated more than £2.2 billion worth of business for its members. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that….?

Networking works. Get on the train…..
