Genealogy without borders

3 May 2014

NiagaraGenealogy research that does not require a passport – that’s what ‘Genealogy Without Borders’ means for the Ontario Genealogical Society Conference 2014 at Brock University. But I sure needed a passport to be here! Trekking across two Canadian provinces before arriving here at St Catherines, Ontario yesterday, the conference was in full swing on my arrival having seen many workshops during the course of Friday and several tours available to delegates on Thursday. Not content with simply having an Annual General Meeting of the Society on Saturday morning, the OGS Niagara Peninsula Branch have certainly put on a full programme of events this weekend with some eminent speakers from across the globe. I am very proud to be amongst them.

Today begins with a Social Media Panel, chaired by John D. Reid of Anglo-Celtic Connections. Panel members will be discussing how we use social media, whether it is good or bad for family history, and how genealogical societies can ‘move with the times’. After lunch, my Child Migration to Canada lecture will be aired – sponsored by British Home Children SIG – though sadly, not streamed to the wider audience across the globe. Save that for Sunday’s lectures!

Watch this space for more information about the conference later on today – but be aware of the time difference from my normal residence in the UK!Niagara
