Part Two: Two Planes from Toronto to Ottawa

3 November 2014

And so, having sat pixie-fashion on the floor in arrivals for just a few moments, Elizabeth spotted my bright purple case on the carousel, I pressed publish so you all knew of my travel issues (though briefly) and off we went to Woodruffe Avenue for the ‘Special Presentation’ being made by yours truly. No-one else on the bill, so would have been a little problematic if I hadn’t made it on time!

Jointly sponsored by Ottawa Branch of Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) and the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) at Woodruffe United Church, I delivered two lectures which I switched around in order to give the funnier one second! So, ‘Solving Problems Through Family Reconstruction‘ was followed by my old favourite, ‘Searching for Names: Challenges, Pitfalls and the Downright Ridiculous‘ which, though it has always been pretty funny, I manage to add some more unusual finds each time it is delivered. [Do look up the animals who are recorded on the 1911 census, if you haven’t already!]

Attendance was almost 140 between the members of BIFHSGO and OGS plus other friends who had come to see me in Ottawa. You always know you’ve done a good job when you literally have no break at all between lectures because everybody wants to talk to you!

Having brought some of my Tracing Your West Country Ancestors books with me, I was delighted to sell every copy with advance requests for Tracing Your Industrial Ancestors which is due to be published in early 2015. My return to OGS Conference 2015 will be much awaited by many, it would seem.

And so, I made it…. changed in the ladies at the venue, rather than having time to relax and have lunch ‘chez Kipp’ but I was on time, in fact, with time to spare. So, thanks very much for the entertaining ride, Air Canada!
