Actions speak louder than words

20 January 2015

How many times have you heard someone say, ‘Actions speak louder than words‘? It’s true. They do. Everyone makes mistakes in life. None of us are perfect. When things go wrong, whether in actions or words, we can apologise. But, if we apologise over and over and our actions don’t change, the words become meaningless. How many people do you know who say ‘Oh, I am so sorry ….’ and then do exactly the same again? ‘Oh, goodness me…. I am so sorry that I forgot to pay your invoice. I’ll do it right away.’ Six weeks later, still not paid. You know the sort.

InspireHave you ever considered cutting out the negativity from your life? Sometimes easier said than done, believe me I know. Negativity just keeps coming back and trying to drag you down when it knows you are flying away in ‘positivity land‘, enjoying your life, leading and inspiring others. Stop and think a moment: what have you done today to make someone else feel positive? If you can’t think of anything, then take a look at how you can change that…. When you talk to people, are you always helpful, even when delivering challenging messages? Are you always truthful with colleagues, friends, family etc.? Do you encourage and inspire others? Is it necessary to say what you are saying?

Before you speak …. THINK. Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? It is kind? If the answer is ‘no’ to any of those questions, maybe don’t say it. Channel the positive, leave the negative in the cupboard under the staircase and live up to your word.

You can say sorry a million times, say I love you as much as you want, say whatever you want, whenever you want. But if you’re not going to prove that the things you say are true, then don’t say anything at all. If you can’t show it, your words don’t mean a thing. Don’t lie in order to satisfy somebody for a moment, because the pain that you cause them in the future can last them for a lifetime.
