Want to find out more about your Devon Ancestors?

15 March 2015

Devon is tucked away in the ‘West Country’ of England and has a rich historical heritage that inspires and delights family historians. Although tourism has brought considerable prosperity to the county, Devon also has a surprising diversity of commercial activity amongst its varied scenery. A four-lesson course is offered – by the MD here at FWL – starting on 15 June 2015, describing the extensive resources available to individuals with family links to the county, the contrasts between life in the cities, towns and villages of Devon, the various occupations specific to the county and the many benefits of joining a county family history society (FHS).

Lesson topics will include online sources, Devon FHS sources, contrasting parishes and populations, the ‘Rich and the Poor’ and much more besides. There will be two online discussion sessions available each week at times to suit people from all time zones across the world. The course is being offered at £40 with a discount of 15% offered to all Devon FHS members. [A bargain at £34!] For more information, booking etc., contact: kirsty@family-wise.co.uk.

Course participants earlier in the year commented that, “Kirsty’s familiarity with the locale & its resources is invaluable. Course material was well-organised & presented in a way that made for focused, practical research without overwhelming. Tailoring content to geographic location of interest made so much more sense than other courses I’ve taken.” … ‘This is the second of Kirsty’s courses which I have completed and they have been excellent. Comprehensive course material, regular webchats with tutor and fellow students, and an extremely helpful and knowledgeable tutor. I would definitely take up more of Kirsty’s courses in the future.” … “Focusing content & applying research techniques to specific geographic location was invaluable. Weekly online discussions/hangouts were a great way to get to know others with similar interests & concerns as well as putting an end to that isolation researchers can feel – especially if they are overseas. Whether you’re new to research or need to re-charge (always new data becoming available/how to access), this course will get you going!

Back by popular demand, following over-subscription to the first 2015 course, spaces are filling up fast. Don’t delay – book today!
