Sir Winston Churchill once said ‘it is a mistake to try to look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time’. But, I am not so sure…. About this time last year, I made a momentous decision. I decided to leave the job that, when I trained back in the early 2000s, I honestly thought I would be doing for the rest of my life.
Training to teach was one of the best and worst decisions I have ever made all rolled into one. I am proud to have taught thousands of children over the past decade. I hope that I have managed to both enthuse and challenge them academically as well as inspiring and guiding them in other ways. Maybe some of them will think back to their schooldays when they are older and remember me…?
But the hardest thing was to leave teaching. There will always be a class you will leave halfway through a course – GCSE, A-level – or some particular individuals who you really want to see succeed through adversity, achieve their goals…. I do miss teaching in many ways and I am pleased that I can continue to help young people unlock their potential by working with them individually.
That said, I do not missing getting up at the crack of dawn and working all hours! I swapped that for working even longer hours developing Family Wise Limited and I do not regret that decision one bit. For now, I have truly unlocked my own potential.
Doing what I love, travelling the nation – indeed, the globe – lecturing at various events about family, local and social history, I now inspire people to look back into the past, celebrate it in the present and ensure we leave something for future generations. Putting together cases for families claiming funds from the Treasury Solicitors when their relations die without leaving a will, putting together that memorable family history package for a special occasion, writing books, running courses…. the team here at Family Wise Limited are stretched to capacity so the obvious thing to do now is to expand the team.
You are the master of your own destiny. Use your strengths well. They are the keys to your destiny and your success in life. Do you think you have the skills and strengths to join our team? Are you ready to realise your dreams and unlock the doors to your own potential? Look far ahead. Ignore Sir Winston…. what did he know?
