When we had this superb – haha! – idea for the Family Wise blog through June, we had no idea how little there is in relation to African genealogy on the internet. FamilySearch – as mentioned last week – has a few collections but finding anything in other locations is certainly proving to be a challenge.
One new find this week is another dimension of Conrod Mercer’s site which lists all the addresses for the most important South African record repositories. What isn’t clear from his website is how recently it has been updated and therefore how current the information is…. But it is at least a starting point.
And then there is also CousinConnect.com which is apparently ‘the place to post your genealogy queries’ – a new one to us here at FWL. It appears to be a bulletin-board style site which allows users to ask fellow family historians for help in locating their ancestors. One of the few places to post research interests in Africa….
There are still two more Thursdays in June…. anyone know of any good websites for African genealogy!? We are struggling and it’s only week 2!
