Some days are tougher than others. Some are like a roller coaster from start to finish. Sometimes light can be seen at the end of the tunnel and sometimes it’s pitch black. Some people are dealt ‘the cushy card’ whilst others seem to always pick the number 13. However, life is what you make of it. The power to succeed or fail is yours alone. You alone have the responsibility to shape your life but that doesn’t mean it’s easy….
Today, I have done a huge number of road miles …. the yet-to-be-named new car has trundled down country lanes and backstreets, A-roads and motorways to be in places I never dreamed I would be. Inspirational training in Bristol with Phil Berg first thing this morning, followed by 90 miles (144 kilometres) to Basingstoke to support a dear friend at her husband’s funeral …. not quite a normal day in the life of Kirsty Gray, MD@FWL.
How could today have been different? I could have played the ‘I’m too busy’ card. Too busy to attend this morning’s training which has given me the opportunity of playing a part in helping to develop my BNI Chapter for the next year. Too busy to drive to Basingstoke this afternoon for the funeral of a gentleman I sadly never had the pleasure of meeting in his lifetime, but to support his widow. Was I too busy? Did I have an enormous list of things I could have done instead? Maybe I was…. Maybe I did…. but both events were important to me, the former for business and the latter for me personally.
Life is short. As Irving Berlin said, “Life is 10% how you make it and 90% how you take it.” What that literally means is that 10% of life is made up of what happens to you and 90% of life is decided by how you react…. So, take a look at some of the decisions you make (‘reactions’) and consider whether you are making wise choices. I’d like to think that, although the task list is longer not shorter at the end of the day, the way I reacted to today’s calendar was the ‘right’ one. As my head hits the pillow tonight, I certainly believe so.
