As MD of FWL, I often find myself carrying out the ‘oddest’ of tasks. Things that I never would have imagined would be ‘part of the job’ when I set up FWL, that’s for sure! But, do you know what? I love it! I don’t know everything. Whilst that is hard to believe for many (haha!), it’s true. But over the years, I have managed to surround myself with people who are experts in their field.
Ten years ago, did I know any lawyers? Erm no, not that I can recall. Would I survive now without knowing a bucket load with copious different fortes? No! The work we do constantly requires us to liaise with solicitors of various specialisms and I am grateful that they ‘speak my language‘. How many solicitors/lawyers do you know who speak Russian? (not literally but metaphorically)…. I know dozens or more. We are lucky to be connected with some outstanding lawyers …. but not everyone is so lucky….
This week alone, on our deceased estates, we have been dealing with car sales, house sales (and hence, conveyancing), insurance brokers, banks and other financial organisations. I cannot say that all of these scenarios have run smoothly/been positive. Some sales have fallen through and several organisations/individuals have been less than helpful. I so wish that the experience with all professional services was consistent!
Tomorrow is another day (a Saturday, I do believe) and there are copious tasks on the ‘to-do’ list for FWL. However, I have at least one ‘more important than work’ task to complete – visit a great friend from yester-profession and her three gorgeous sproglets. Haven’t seen them in too many months….
Thank you and goodnight all! I’ll see you on the other side.
