A day of rest?

28 February 2016

Sunday…. it’s the day after Saturday and before Monday. Part of the weekend. For those who follow the Christian faith, Sunday is a day of worship and rest. However, for many of us, it’s a day of ‘rest’ in a different way. A day to do the rest of the laundry, the rest of the housework and the rest of the work we didn’t manage to complete in the week. This is particularly true for me having had the working week somewhat battered by events. [A brief update on that: I now have a handbag, driver’s licence, credit and debit card, and hence I no longer feel like a social pariah!]

I am a firm believer that there should be a work/life balance and also that a Sunday well spent brings a week of content [pronounce that either way!]. I have a lot of content on the ‘to-do’ list and I am content with the amount I have achieved today. Being a busy MD, if that particular list was empty, I would be concerned. There is always something which needs to be done – inheritance tax forms, applications for Grants of Probate, contracts and ID to be sorted and accounts to be sent out (to name but a few tasks on the current list!)….

Sunday is a quiet day. The office phones don’t ring. People still send us emails and are often surprised that we reply. It’s a good day to consolidate and catch up. The perfect time to do the jobs which require more focus and less interruption.

What does the week ahead promise? After last week, I don’t think I’ll ever speculate again! There are many tasks on the MoSCoW spreadsheet. Probably too many ‘musts’ to achieve. I have a tango to Hounslow on Wednesday and a foxtrot to Reading on Thursday, plus a whole lot in between….

It would certainly be true to say that I could use a day between Saturday and Sunday but I don’t think that’ll ever happen so …. I will welcome Monday! Please let this week be 100 times better than last!
