OK, so I have become slightly obsessed with stupid names today, possibly to the detriment of the ‘to do’ list but it has certainly brought laughter to the home of Family Wise – indeed, nigh on tears at time.
Having written earlier about putting ‘one’ into various censuses, I wasn’t really sure where I was in Ancestry earlier on and instead of putting ‘one’ into the 1911 census, I put it into the London, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906. And to my amusement, found the baptisms of William Number Four Harris and William Number Five Harris in 1897 and 1900 respectively. Who would Adam and Eve it…. their father was William Number One Harris!
Marrying Alice Lovey Peel in the Parish Church, Islington on 23 September 1896, William Harris No. 1 even signs his name as ‘No. 1’. Odd to say the least! And the plot thickens…. here is a birth registration in Kingston RD in September qtr 1880 for Number Three W H Harris. Surely the entire family do not name all their male children William and number each and every one in order?
