Well actually, I am a little late but thankfully, as a longstanding ambassador of the event, I have been given the authority (thanks, RootsTech organising team) to still run my GIVEAWAY competition for a FOUR DAY complimentary pass.
I have been to RootsTech in Salt Lake City every year since 2016. In my first year, I had no idea what to expect. I hadn’t really done my homework and just got on the ‘plane. Little did I realise what an enormous event it is and just how many genealogy professionals, amateurs, business, societies and more I would meet during the course of the week. I also failed to realise that it is THE place to be if you are involved in genealogy at any level.
In the first year, me and @HistoryLady2013 (aka Sylvia Valentine) took the plunge and loved every second of it. Spending a lot of time in the Media Hub, I ‘hobnobbed’ with people who I had previously only known on Facebook including the amazing DearMYRTLE (Pat Richley-Erickson), ‘Miss Peggy’ (Peggy Clemens Lauritzen), Valerie Brown Atkins, Lara Diamond (Lara’s Jewnealogy – Jewish Genealogy), Laura Wilkinson Hedgecock and many more besides. What an amazing area for us all to congregate and spread the RootsTech word widely for those in attendance and not in attendance.
In 2017, I took the bold step of applying to teach one of the classes and I could not believe my luck when I was asked to deliver not one but two classes! With the demise of Who Do You Think You Are? Live in the UK after the event in 2017, Family Wise took the brave decision to bronze sponsor RootsTech 2018 and take a team over to Salt Lake City. What an experience! Our booth space was perfect (thanks Brandon and team) and we had many visitors to our area, particularly to look at our map of the UK and explain where places actually are in our land!
And so, on February 22, we will fly back to Salt Lake City once more – this time from Bristol airport (so much closer!). We hope that we are not too late to provide one lucky person with the opportunity to be there with us! We have to be quite quick (as we have been a bit busy with our office move and we’ve kind of missed the deadline – oops!). If you would like to be ‘in it to win it’, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 25 January 2019 at 5pm GMT (that’s UK time!) with your name, location and a brief note about why you want to go to RootsTech, we will draw the winner on Saturday 26 January 2019.
[RootsTech 2019 will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from February 27 to March 2, 2019. Find out more about the event by visiting the RootsTech website.]
